Wanted Japanese food for dinner one evening & came across Mitani in Rosenheimer Platz one evening. We decided to give it a try & it was worth it. We managed to get the last table, as the rest were reserved. We looked through the menu and ordered a few dishes between us (myself & my husband), and I will admit, they were all very tasty. I am so happy that we tried out Mitani. The food is so good that we are constantly talking about the restaurant, especially with friends & my husband only wants to eat here for his birthday haha.
Recently, because of the pandemic, people can only order food to go, and, you have to email the restaurant or message them on Facebook messenger 24 hours beforehand and let them know what food you want to order and what time you will collect the food. They are hoping to open up for outdoor seating soon, once the weather improves. I'm really looking forward to ordering again soon from MitaniHelpful 4Thanks 0Love this 3Oh no 0 - Yoko K.San Jose, United States112139 May 2019

Having read many wonderous reviews of this place and after friends recommendation I couldn't wait to get there. Once I did I was genuinly disappointed - there are many japaneese / sushi places in Munich which offer similarly good food, but much better experience related to service. The waiters were very unattentive, almost rude - it took a long time to place an order, some starters, sashimi and tempura, and equally long time to get served although the restaurant wasn't even half full. The food was good, but nothing out of the ordinary, and quite a bit pricier. I'd rather spend my money elsewhere next time.

Unfriendly or I should say rude restaurant!!! Right when we stepped in the main door, the owner shouted at us "No more table!" as if he wanted us to get out immediately. What kind of attitude is that?! Ridiculous!!! Treat customers like shit then for sure they treat your food like shit too!!!!

Small place and it's recommended to have reservations since it's always busy and usually packed with Japanese patrons. After you eat here you understand why: top quality fish, really fresh and melting in the mouth.
Really good spot for sushi, sashimi and the likes.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Luisa P.Haidhausen, Munich, Germany53320 Feb 2014
Finally got to go to mitani last night! Was really happy with the whole experience!
My husband got a tempura udon and loved it! By far the best one he has had in munich.
I got a mix of sushi and nigiri! Was fresh, good texture and downright delicious! Really happy to have found this place!!Helpful 3Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 0 - Rebecca S.Charlotte, United States316944 Feb 2014
I hear Mitani has a 5-star worthy dinner. However, I can only speak for their lunch offering.
CALL AHEAD! Mitani is tiny, and if you don't make a reservation I highly doubt you're going to get a seat. I was with a party of 5, we were at a table for 4 people, and we were squeezed right next to another party of 5 who also at a table for 4 people. To say I had no elbow room would be an understatement. However, the waiters can't snap their fingers and magically make their restaurant bigger, so I'll just have to suck it up I suppose.
However, the food immediately makes one forget any discomfort from lack of space. The cost of your meal in comparison to the amound of food you receive is rarely found in Munich, so it is quite a pleasant surprise. Salad, soup, a plate of nigiri sushi, drink, dessert, and tip for about 11€ (12€ maximum).
My only real peeve with lunch at Mitani, is the speed at which the food is served. I know....that sounds odd. Why would someone complain about fast service?! Fast is great, but we literally received our soup and salad at the same time, and before anyone could finish those two dishes, our sushi was already being served. The table just wasn't big enough, so most of us just handed over the rest of our soup to make a bit of space. However, if you were in a rush to get back to your office, I suppose this wouldn't be a bad thing.
All of that being said, there is no doubt that I will be back to Mitani for lunch, because the sushi is just that good. I'll just make sure to only bring one or two people with me ; )Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Tiff C.Novato, United States134 Aug 2018
Very disappointed experience. My friend visited this place half a year ago, the food was very tasty. But the dishes that we ordered tonight were either disappointing or just mediocre. Something surprising was they served us the rice from the day before; it was lukewarm and slightly dry. We told them the rice wasn't right, they took back and replaced them with warm and fresh rice. But seriously, what kinda Japanese restaurant would not even serve rice properly? Also, the tempura udon was a complete disaster, I have never had such soggy tempura ever. It only contains one piece zucchini, one piece eggplant, one super bland shrimp, and some seaweedTHAT'S IT! I wouldn't go back.

I have only ever been here for lunch but we go here pretty often because it's close to work and they have a pretty good lunch deal. For 8 € you get a salad, a cup of miso soup and either nigiri sushi, a rice bowl with sashimi on top, or the daily special (which varies). Add 1.50 € for green tea and 0.50 € tip and it means that your sushi lunch is 10 €. I think that's a fair price as the sushi is pretty nice. Dinner appears to be quite a bit more expensive but I haven't tried it. Don't arrive much later than noon most days, or you can just as well wait until 13:00 as the place fills up.
