A nice and inviting Italian restaurant with good food and wine.
The pizzas are good, with the right amount of quality toppings on a thin but not crispy crust. You can also get the pizzas to go. My favorite is the mascarpone parma pomodorini. I've been consistently happy with the rest of the menu as well.
I usually choose from the selection of open wines by the glass.
The prices are decent for Munich.
The service is friendly, if at times slow an inattentive.
In the summer the multiple doors open to provide enough air to prevent it from getting too hot and stuffy inside. The tables on the out-of-the way sidewalk are also quite popular, bringing out the neighborhood for a relaxed meal.Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 0 - Julie G.Edinburgh, United Kingdom661551969 Mar 2012
I should preface this review by noting that I am an insufferable boorish snob when it comes to Italian restaurants. I'd rather go without entirely than endure the tedium of the bland soggy noodle dishes that reign in Munich. I'll just hold out until my next run south of the border (and then the other border), thank you very much.
So it was with a giant "eh, who cares" that I greeted the news that we'd be getting a place called La Grappa in our neighborhood. But then, one lazy night, we gave it a try, and I was surprised to find myself not turning up my nose in disapproval. In fact, they actually seemed to get the pizza right, for the most part (not as perfect as the place we lived above in Milan, but even I can recognize that this is a useless standard to hold onto in Germany). We went back and discovered the pasta dishes were also quite edible, and the scallop and seaweed appetizer that sometimes appears on the specials menu is downright lovely.
The staff is welcoming and friendly, almost to the point of invoking a certain vintage Saturday Night Live skit. I think the only negative I have to note about La Grappa is that the prices (especially on the wine) are a little on the high side. But it's much better to slightly overpay for a meal than to have to endure a typical German spaghetto.Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 0
